Olive's tail is so confusing

The Times has a piece today about a study that reports that when a dog's tail wags disproportionately to one side or the other, it suggests specific emotions. If it wags to the left, he or she is having negative feelings, and if the tail wags more to the right, the dog is happy and having positive feelings.

What if your dog's tail is all curly and you can't tell which way it's going?

Heya Olive-

Dog's communicate via body language, licking/kissing, sniffing, looking, pawing, tail wagging, etc. The tail is an interesting thing...especially on Puggies because we have curly tails. Our rule of thumb, tail wagging in any direction (left or right) means nice to meet you, let's play, or I am very happy; tail pulled in underneath means scared/freightened, and straight for Puggies is in shock or out of it. What do you think?

Pug wagging out! Have a great day Olive!
